European Medals for Irish boxing in 2018
Following the completion of the recent European Elite Women’s Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, Irish boxing has now claimed 24 medals in four European tournaments since March of this year.
The count stands at 6 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze and four top ten finishes in the various medals tables in just over three months of Continental competition.
Three athletes – Michaela Walsh, Kelly Harrington and Gráinne Walsh – also qualified for next year’s multi-sport European Games in Belarus at the European Women’s Elites where the Irish trio were only beaten – on split decision in two bouts – by the eventual silver and gold medalists.
Three major international tournaments remain in 2018.
The AIBA World Men’s and Women’s Youth Championships begin in Budapest, Hungary on August 20 and the AIBA World Women’s Elite Championships are scheduled for New Delhi, India in November.
The Men’s and Women’s Junior Championships will also be hosted this year at a date to be confirmed.
Irish amateur boxing is proudly sponsored by Liffey Crane.
