Eddie Hearn pledges supports to Donegal boxing club destroyed by floods

The Inishowen Peninsula in Donegal was ravaged by flash floods last week, and one of the many victims was the Dunree Boxing Club in Buncrana.

Much of the gyms electrical and training equipment was was swept away, and the boxing ring itself was only saved as it was blocked by a large metal beam.

The club, which has around 40 members, have launched an urgent appeal on GoFundMe and have raised €320 as of late last night. They are also looking for donations of equipment as they try to get back up and running as soon as possible.

The clubs plight was last night also brought to the attention of Matchroom Boxing’s boss Eddie Hearn, and the English promoter has expressed his willingness to help.

Earlier this Summer Matchroom donated £5,000 to the Holy Family club in Belfast ahead of Ryan Burnett’s IBF bantamweight world title win against Lee Haskins.

Hearn returns to Belfast on Wednesday for the first official press conference for Burnett’s first defence, a title unification with WBA champ Zhanat Zhakiyanov at the SSE Odyssey Arena on Saturday October 21st.
