Donovan progresses to European last eight

Edward Donovan booked his ticket in the last-eight of the European Junior Championships in Kaposvar, Hungary today.

But Barry McReynolds bowed out on a split decision to Anzor Gapuev of Russia, the third split decision reversal against Ireland in bouts with Russia today.

Irish coach Billy McClean said they were concerned and mystified at the results going to the Russian Federation versus Ireland and that they felt that they should have got at least two of today’s verdicts.

Earlier today, Terry Donoghue and Brandon McCarthy, who obliged his opponent to take a count in the first, convincingly advanced, but Michael Delaney and Pierce O’Leary, who rocked his opponent on more than one occasion, were  unlucky to lose to two Russian opponents on split verdicts.

Seven Irish boxers will be in action tomorrow. Please see below attachment for program.
