Donnelly Olympic Update – Zamkovoy and Butaev keep winning

It looks like it will be a nail-biting weekend for Steven Donnelly, whose Olympic hopes seemingly hinge on the ongoing Russian National Championships in Samara.

The Ballymena welterweight needs Andrey Zamkovoy to outperform Radzhab Butaev. If this occurs, it is believed the Irishman will qualify for Rio by virtue of his forth place finish in the World Series of Boxing.

Both Russian stars, kept apart in the draw, have won their opening three bouts, all by 3-0 unanimous decision, and the pair fight again in the semis tomorrow, with an all-or-nothing clash on Sunday on the horizon.

The elite duo will be in action again tomorrow from approximately 1:30pm Irish time. Stay tuned to irish-boxing.com for updates.
