1939: Derry legend Spider Kelly lost his British and Commonwealth featherweight titles in his first defence against Manchester’s Johnny Cusick by a twelfth round stoppage at the Kings Hall. Kelly had been defeated twice on points in the previous two years by Cusick in non-title affairs.

2013: Frankie Gavin defended his British welterweight title for the second time and added the Commonwealth belt with a seventh round stoppage of the previously-undefeated Denton Vassell at the Olympia in Liverpool. The Manchester fighter retired in the seventh round with a damaged jaw.
