2013: Spike O’Sullivan lost his unbeaten record to Billy Joe Saunders at the Wembley Arena via a perforated eardrum-effected unanimous decision loss (120-109 x2, 119-110). At a stage in his career when he was very inactive, O’Sullivan was disappointed with his performance, but gracious in defeat.
1894: Pat Scully forced Myler Keogh into a twenty-sixth round retirement to win the Irish heavyweight title at the Antient Concert Rooms in Dublin. Keogh would later win and defend the Irish middleweight title.
1970: Light middleweight Patrick Doherty outpointed Ghanaian Prince Amartey to guarantee bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. Doherty would lose his semi final to home fighter and eventual gold medalist Tom Imrie.
