Date and venue set for Paul Hyland and Liam Walsh’s British title fight

Paul Hyland Jr [20(7)-2(1)] now knows the when and where when it comes to his second British title shot.

The Belfast lightweight was mandated to fight Liam Walsh [23(15)-1(1)] for a Lonsdale belt vacated by MHD stable mate James Tennyson earlier this year – and was hopeful of challenging the English fighter in Belfast.

However, MTK Global won the purse the bids and as a result the right to promote the clash. They officially confirmed the venue and date on Friday night.

‘Hylo’ versus one of three boxing brothers will take place on a #MTKFightNight on Friday February 19/

The event will be broadcast live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV.

Former world title challenger Walsh is back after back to back wins in 2019, he looks to become a two-weight British champion after previously holding the belt at super-featherweight.

Hyland is just as keen to add a championship to his collection, having challenged for the European and British titles over the past 18 months.

We’re thrilled to announce the date for this tremendous fight between Liam Walsh and Paul Hyland Jnr for the British lightweight title.

Show promoter Lee Eaton commented : “Liam has been desperate for a big fight for a while, so it’s great to get him in the ring with Paul Hyland Jnr, who will provide a serious test for him.

“It’s our second massive event announced for 2021, following on from the great show taking place in January that features Karim Guerfi vs. Lee McGregor for the European title, and Sean McComb vs. Gavin Gwynne for the Commonwealth title, so we can’t wait to kick off the year in style.”
