Opponent confirmed for Connor Coyle’s Irish debut
Connor Coyle [1(1)-0] will be hoping to be atomic as he returns to the National Stadium against an opponent that is anything but a kitten.
Ferenc Katona [6(3)-2(1)] provides the opposition for the Derry light middleweight as he trades in Ireland for the first time as a pro on the Red Corner Promotions November 5th ‘Inception’ show.
The Romanian, who fights out of Hungry, is more than respectable opposition for a prospect making just his second pro outing.
Katona, who mans the away corner as Coyle returns to the National Stadium for the first time since his amateur days, boasts a winning record having won six of his eight bouts, three of which came by way of knock out. Granted those wins came against relatively unknown opposition in gym-hosted bouts, but the 23 year old does provide Coyle, who debuted with victory over Euris Silverio in Florida last month, the chance to make favourable domestic comparisons.
Roscommon’s Darren Cruise shared the same National Stadium ring with Katona on the FS Promotions June 25th show. The Irish title hopeful put in an impressive display to stop his formerly unbeaten foe in three.
Katona returned to Hungry, and winning ways, soon after, adding three victories to his slate before facing British prospect ‘Qast Iron’ Qasim Niaz in Bolton last month. The middleweight southpaw took Niaz the distance, but was dropped by the welterweight suggesting Coyle will have the capability to register a second successive stoppage.
