Conlan’s double whammy

3 December 2010 – Jonny Stapleton

Jamie Conlan is a little fighter on a big mission and is targeting a British Title shot next year.

Conlan begins a personal Christmas boxing ‘bonanza with a bout against Levan Garibashvili on the undercard of Carl Framptons Celtic title fight with Gavin Reid, hoping to take another step towards becoming lord of the domestic flyweights.

The true acid test comes when the 24 year old takes on unbeaten prospect Lewis Browning on the under card of Martin Lindsays British title defence on December 15.

But the undefeated John Breen trained fighter stressed Garibashvili is a step up in class and will test him on Friday.

I can’t wait to get in the ring on Friday. It will be my first fight in December. I am also fighting on the Lindsay bill against unbeaten prospect Lewis Browning. Friday will be the start of my Christmas bonanza, Conlan told Mirror Sport.

I am always confident because I train hard and I am always prepared for whatever my opponent is going to bring to the table. I do believe its a step up in class. This fighter will be a hard nut to crack.

Conlan has benefited from the progression of fellow Belfast fighter Carl Frampton, appearing on both the Tiger Bay natives Ulster Hall under cards. But he is hoping to emulate the former Irish amateur champion and become a headline act next year.

It is great to see Carl doing so well and I dont think it will be too long until I am doing the same, Conlan added. Hopefully if all goes well in my next two fights 2011 will be a big year for me. I am hoping to fight for a British title sometime next year. 2010 has been a great year but next is going to be even better.
