Con Sheehan secures debut date
Former amateur super heavyweight standout Con Sheehan will trade leather for the first time as a pro on December 5.
The former Senior Champion and Irish international turned pro early this year, but his team where in no rush to get him into the ring.
A March 2015 debut was muted, but once the big Tipperary man teamed up with Virgil Hunter in America the experienced Andre Ward and Amir Khan coach requested it be put back. Hunter wanted time to help Sheehan make the transition to pro style and fitness levels.
However, a date has now been set, a Sheehan will fight in America on December 5 and join Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner and Niall Kennedy as an active Irish pro heavyweight.
“Con will return to Hayward, California on September 21st and he will make his debut on December 5th,” Gary Hyde told Irish-boxing.com
“Virgil Hunter is very impressed with how Con is making the transition from amateur to pro and he has big hopes for Con. He could have made his debut already but Virgil was working on planting his feet and increasing his power. He has made a great improvement and Con is loving it
“Con can become a huge star with the team he has around him. He dedicated talented massive in stature and of course he’s Irish. The heavyweight division needs Con”
