Chantelle Cameron believes she can better Belgian blueprint versus Katie Taylor

Chantelle Cameron [10(7)-0] will look to put herself in the frame for a fight with Katie Taylor fight later this month and has been bolstered by the blueprint of Delfine Persoon.

The English puncher believes Persoon deserved the nod over Taylor [14(6)-0] in their undisputed clash in New York and feels that she would perform even better than the awkward Belgian should she get her chance.

Cameron boxes Commonwealth super featherweight champion Anisha Basheel in a WBC lightweight final eliminator at the York Hall on June 28th and a win will put her in line for a fight for all the belts.

A rematch between Taylor and Persoon, surely, looks to be the next step – with the Bray boxer stating her willingness and the doubtful Flemish fighter planning to lobby the WBC to make sure.

While she wants a big-money fight with Taylor herself, Cameron does believe that Persoon deserves a rematch.

The Northampton prospect described how “I had it as a close fight but thought Delfine edged it and it was a bit of a poor decision. I think Delfine was catching Katie with cleaner shots and should’ve got the verdict.”

“Taylor is an amazing boxer. She’s great to watch but to be honest, I was more impressed with Delfine. She was on Taylor constantly, throwing and pushing Katie around. It was very impressive.”

“They could do a rematch one day because it was a great fight. It was probably the best women’s fight I’ve ever watched. Katie kind of owes Delfine that rematch. If it doesn’t happen, it’s bad.”

“That fight was fight of the night on that show. It’s great to see because it shows how far women’s boxing has come. It was incredibly entertaining.”

Cameron and her team have always been confident of their chances versus Taylor and ‘Wham Bam Chan’ has been pin-pointed by many commentators as a serious test for the Wicklow wonder.

The fighter who was beaten previously by Taylor in the amateurs thinks she would excel in a pro rematch – especially after seeing Persoon enjoy so much success at Madison Square Garden.

Cameron explained how “having watched that, I think my style would be a massive problem for Katie.”

“Delfine comes looking for war and has a high work-rate, but I’m more accurate and pick my shots better.”
