Carl Frampton makes fantastic donation to help young Sligo boy

Carl Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] is known as one of the nicest and most generous guys in Irish boxing, but The Jackal has gone above and beyond today.

The Belfast featherweight, like dozens of other Irish boxers, is a supporter of the Rory’s Wish to Walk campaign.

The appeal is young Sligo boy Rory Gallagher who suffers from Cerebral Palsy.

Initial diagnoses would say that Rory would never walk or talk, but the youngster has continued to amaze doctors, growing up to be a right little chatterbox and taking steps with the aid of specialist equipment.

The dream is for Rory to be able to walk unassisted but, before that can become a reality, he requires expensive double hip and thigh surgeries at a specialist facility in Boston.

Rory’s family have been fundraising for surgery and physiotherapy, and have found a special place in the Irish boxing family with their trademark illuminous green wristbands being a staple on the arms of many fighters.

Back in November, two-weight world champion Frampton met with the Gallaghers for the first time and this weekend he and his family paid a visit to their home in Sligo.

Not only did Frampton, his wife Christine, and children Carla and Rossa, raise spirits and bring presents – they also came with some memorabilia for auction and a massive donation of €4,200.

An unbelievable gesture, the Framptons have brought Rory that bit closer to fulfilling his dream.

We here at Irish-Boxing.com are well used to backing top Irish fighters and little Rory is certainly one of them!
