Carl Frampton hits back at Luke Jackson’s overweight jibes

Carl Frampton has hit back at Luke Jackson after his upcoming opponent accused him of looking overweight, sluggish, and lacking focus.

Quotes provided by Jackson to Frampton’s promoter, Frank Warren, were released today in which the Aussie accused ‘The Jackal’ of overlooking him ahead of their August 18th clash at Windsor Park.

Frampton [25(14)-1(0)] puts his WBO interim featherweight belt on the line versus the organisation’s #5 and Jackson believes that “they’re overlooking me, I’m just Luke Jackson from Australia who they are supposed to bowl over.”

“I’ve seen some footage of Carl’s training. He still looks sluggish and bit heavy. It seems he is always on a plane going to places.”

This couldn’t be further from the truth according to Frampton, who has previously stated that he has entered this camp in Manchester at a lighter weight than usual.

The Belfast 31-year-old took to Twitter to respond to Jackson’s assertions and took aim at the talkative Tasmanian’s appearance.

Frampton asked “want to talk about appearance? How about the fact Luke Jackson looks older than my da.”

It’s not the first time that Frampton has hit back at trash-talk from his unheralded opponent.

While the Tiger’s Bay boxer did not entertain attempts from Jackson [16(7)-0] to goad him at the press conference last month, Frampton hit back with venom when quotes emerged from the London Olympian which belittled his amateur pedigree.

The quotes from Jackson and the online responses from Frampton have certainly served to add a bit of spice to a match-up which was criticised when made – although there were a dearth of options at the time.

Indeed it will be interesting to see the interactions between the pair when Jackson arrives in Ireland next month ahead of the big stadium fight night and whether the 33-year-old will look to continue his attempts to get under Frampton’s skin.
