Burnett records points win over former Quigg and Casey foe

Belfast Bantamweight Ryan Burnett took his record to 8-0-0 on Friday night with a comprehensive points victory over  Faycal Messaoudene at the York Hall.

The Adam Booth trained fighter dominated his French opponent throughout on his way to a 60-54 points win.

The former Youth Olympic Gold Medalist looked intent on an early stoppage until trainer Booth urged him to relax and get the rounds in at the end of the first.

Burnett landed some heavy body shots throughout against the tricky and elusive Messaoudene but the former Scott Quigg and Willie Casey foe kept a tight defence and survived the six rounds.

The bout was a good warm up for Burnett who will next travel to the United States to fight on the undercard of stablemate Andy Lee’s World Title defence gainst Peter Quillin.
