Big weekend for Irish Amateur boxing

It’s going to be a big start to the Bank Holiday weekend for Irish boxing at home, in Europe and in Central Asia on Friday.

David Oliver Joyce gets proceedings underway in Kazakhstan when he makes his AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) debut against Kazakhstan’s AIBA World No. 2 ranked lightweight Berik Abdrakhmanov in Astana, followed by Joe Ward’s APB debut against Russia’s AIBA World No. 4 ranked light-heavy Nikita Ivanov.

In Zabgreb, Croatia, John Joyce, the current European Junior champion, meets Georgian welter Giorgi Kharabadzsin and Youth Olympian in the semi-finals of the European Youth Championships, while back at home the finals of the National U/22 finals at the National Stadium in Dublin.

The finals will be televised live on TG4.

Tommy Murphy, President of the IABA, wished all of our boxers the very best of luck at home and abroad this Friday.
