‘Big Sexy’ Turner secures Ultimate Boxxer 6 slot
There will be Irish interest in Ultimate Boxxer for the second time running when the heavyweight installment plays out on December 13.
Dublin heavy Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner [12(8)-3(1)] has been confirmed as one of the eight who will compete for the Golden Robe and the £16,000 winners cheque live on BT in two months time.
The Shankill big man was very vocal about wanting to participate in the prizefighter styled tournament once it was confirmed the Ultimate Boxxer 6 would be filled by heavyweights.
He boldly called for a contract to be sent his way and his calls didn’t fall on deaf ears.
It’s massive for ‘Big Sexy’ as his career has stagnated somewhat over the last two years, now he has a chance to earn some money, increase his profile and become return to relevance in an extremely lively and lucrative division.
The former National Elite super heavyweight champion hasn’t been seen in the ring since his stoppage defeat to Nathan Gorman last year, a fight he admits he took at short notice and for the money.
After scoring a legitimately impressive stoppage win over EBU-EE champion Arnold Gjergjaj in Switzerland in late 2017, 2018 looked like it had break-out potential for the straight talking big punching big man.
However, poor financially driven choices and an admitted lack of training saw last year go in the opposite direction.
Throughout 2019 he has been talking of a return to form and title fights, but nothing has materialized as of yet.
Two camps in Bolton helping Hughie Fury prepare for fights with Samuel Peter and Alexander Povetkin was a welcome break from home ‘distractions’ – and Shankill slugger seems to have regained some focus.
Now he has a slot on the Ultimate Boxxer card and could change things around. The tournament certainly would provide the platform from which Turner could relaunch his career. It’s certainly a proven recipe for fast tracking and if you consider what Prizefighter did for Martin Rogan, Turner should be excited about the prospect of competing.
In terms of Irish fans, they watched on as Steven Donnelly impressively took victory in Ultimate Boxxer 5 and for the second time running have a fighter to back.
The eight heavyweight fighters who will go head to head in the sixth installment of the contest on Friday, December 13 were confirmed today.
Turner will be competing against the Nick Webb, Mark Bennett, Jonathan Palata, Josh Sandland, Jay McFarlane, Kamil Sokolowski and Chris Healey for the golden robe.
‘The heavyweight division is absolutely thriving right now and we are very excited to put on this monster event and add to a huge December calendar for heavyweight fight fans,’ said Ultimate Boxxer founder Ben Shalom.
