Anthony Joshua backs ‘special’ Katie Taylor to leave lasting mark on boxing

Katie Taylor [16(6)-0] will be one of the very ‘few’ fighters to leave a lasting mark on the sport of boxing according to Anthony Joshua.

Joshua and Taylor have both excelled at the highest level of professional boxing after winning gold medals at the London 2012 Games, indeed they have shared numerous big cards in recent years.

Still the unified heavyweight champion of the world remains in awe of the trailblazer and believes such has the impact the Bray native has had that her legacy will be lasting.

“She’s phenomenal,” Joshua told Sky Sports.

“I can’t even put it into words. She’s special.

“Sometimes you get a few fighters that come along in this world and they’re special, and they leave a mark.

“She’ll definitely be one of those people that leave a mark on the boxing industry.”

Joshua was speaking during fight week of Taylor’s latest bill topping clash.

The undisputed lightweight world champion puts all her titles on the line against Miriam Gutierrez live across Sky Sports platforms on Saturday night.
