All or Nothing – Irish boxers bet their purses on title fight

Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr hit the headlines last week when they agreed to a winner takes all bet ahead of their showdown on May 6th

Both Mexican fighters have since dropped this wager, however two Irish punchers have tonight bet their purses for an Irish title fight this Summer.

While a bout for the green middleweight belt is still to confirmed, proposed combatants Luke Keeler [12(5)-2(1)] and Darren Cruise [7(1)-5(0)] will box for all or nothing should the clash be made.

Earlier today Cruise, currently stationed in Syria with the Irish Army, contacted Irish-Boxing.com to express his desire to fight Ballyfermot’s Keeler for the Irish title in the Summer.

Roscommon fighter Cruise is happy to jump straight into the bout, which was authorised by the Boxing Union of Ireland last year, when he returns from the Middle East.

Following the publication of the story, Dublin promoter Red Corner stated their willingness to put on the fight and Keeler too reiterated his long-held desire to fight for the Irish belt ahead of a potential European title tilt toward the end of the year.

Gentlemanly exchanges were traded via social media throughout this evening which culminated in Dubliner Keeler proposing a combined winner takes all purse for the fight – an offer which was immediately accepted by Cruise.

Red Corner’s preferred time-frame for the bout is this coming June, which should fit nicely with Cruise’s return from abroad in early April, allowing both fighters a full camp for the title clash. That said, Cruise’s promoter Mark Dunlop has also suggested that he is interested in staging the fight.
