Tims Needs Shoulder Op But Hopes To Be Back In May

By Paddy Appleton

Ian Tims says he wants another night on the big stage following January’s unlucky defeat to Juho Haapoja in Finland.

Tims took the tough fight in the Finn’s backyard but the gamble did not pay off as the Dubliner lost a unanimous decision.

However, he believes he is stronger following that defeat and he said that whilst having no-one in particular in mind, he definitely wants a challenge in his next bout.

“I’d be hoping to fight again around May. I have an injury to my shoulder that has been bothering me for 2 years now so I’d like to get that fixed and then hopefully fight again, preferably against a big-name opponent.”

The Dubliner has said he is still in training just keeping fit and also told us that whilst he would love a chance for revenge against Haapoja he just can’t see the fight happening.

“I’m still training and just keeping myself ticking over. I’ve been doing a bit of sparring with Spike O’Sullivan for his next fight so that’s been keeping me busy.

“I did feel a little hard done by in Finland but that’s boxing. It was a tough night but perhaps his home advantage helped him. Of course I would love the chance for a rematch but I wouldn’t think it will happen to be honest.”

Tims wants to get the shoulder operated on as soon as possible, so Irish fight fans can see him in action again at the start of the summer.

He’ll be hoping that fight is against a reputable opponent on home soil as he seeks to forget the Haapoja loss and get back to winning ways.
