Katie Taylor‘s world title challenge next week has this evening been thrown into doubt

The Bray lightweight was set to challenge WBA champion Anahi Esther Sanchez at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday October 28th, but rumours are abound that the Sky Box Office card could be postponed.

Megastar Anthony Joshua tops the bill, defending his IBF and WBA heavyweight titles against Kubrat Pulev, but it is being widely reported tonight that the Bulgarian opponent will need to withdraw due to muscle injury.

The talk originates from Bulgarian outlet Dnevnik.

With the proposed fight just twelve days away, it is an extremely fine margin to find a replacement – should indeed Pulev be out.

Former Joshua foe Dillian Whyte features on the undercard versus Robert Helenius, and the Jamaican of Cork descent has been put forward by many as a man who could step into the breach and save the show – and Taylor’s world title challenge.

Argentinian Sanchez [17(9)-2(1)] won the belt following a domestic dust-up with countrywoman Cecilia Sofia Mena via sixth round stoppage (on cuts) last month.

Taylor [6(4)-0] moved into title contention back in April on the previous Anthony Joshua PPV undercard – versus Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley – when she stopped German Nina Meinke in the seventh to win the WBA Inter-Continental rankings belt.

The Wicklow woman only turned pro less than a year ago, and has raced to the forefront of the 135lbs division.
