Lou DiBella on Lee v McEwan

9 March 2011 – Jonny Stapleton

If Andy Lee passes the biggest test of his career this Saturday night he will get the chance to re-sit the only boxing exam he ever failed before going on to fight for a world title, according to new promoter Lou DiBella.

Lee challenges undefeated Scot Craig McEwan on the undercard of Serigo Martinez and Sergiy Dzinziruks March 12 WBC middleweight title fight in Foxwoods Casino, a fight that is being broadcast live in Ireland on Setanta. And if the former Olympian emerges victorious from the mouth-watering cross roads bout he will get the chance to avenge his sole career defeat suffered at the gloves of Brian Vera. The CEO of DiBella Entertainment stressed a reverse over the Freddie Roach trained Scot will also ensure the New York based Limerick southpaw emerges as the most worthy and prominent middleweight contender in world.

The big time boxing promoter claims that if the Detroit based talent impresses live on HBO he will take step one on the journey toward challenging the winner of Saturdays main event for the WBC Strap. Speaking to OnTheGrindBoxing DiBella confirmed he plans to get Lee the two fights he craves.

I am really excited about working with Andy,” he said. “I have a big fan of his since he was an amateur. I think Andy will win a world title and compete at the highest level. I dont think one loss to Vera should affect his status, but it does mean he has some stuff to prove. McEwan is a big test for him. If he can get past McEwan, which I think he can, we will get a rematch with Vera and we will go from there. There are a lot of opportunities out their for Andy and when he beats McEwan he will be on a road that leads to Sergio Martinez and his middleweight world title, DiBella explained.

Andy is trying to put his name out there. He is fighting a tough undefeated fighter in Craig McEwan. It is a match-up between the great Irish prospect and the great Scottish prospect near enough to St Patricks Day. If Andy wins this fight he establishes himself as the best young 160 pound fighter out there and maybe establishes himself as the main contender to fight for a middleweight title.
