Tyrone McCullagh wins Belfast headliner following DQ madness

Derry super bantamweight Tyrone McCullagh topped his first bill tonight and claimed win number eight.

The former amateur star was the headline attraction at The Devenish Complex on the Ginley Promotions ‘Danger at The Devenish’ bill.

McCullagh had been subject to numerous frustrating fight week changes and eventually ended up facing BBBoC Central Area super flyweight champion Craig Derbyshire.

An odd fight, McCullagh won via disqualification in the second round, with Derbyshire turfed out for repeated rules infractions.

A messy fight, the pair came together in a clinch and Derbyshire’s glove touched the ground. Referee Hugh Russell did not intervene and McCullagh sinked a few shots to the body of the crouched over Englishman.

Incensed, Derbyshire straightened up and charged McCullagh head-first and eventually grabbing him in a headlock. Ignored the calls to break, Derbyshire was pulled off McCullagh and disqualified.

The win sees McCullagh move to 8(4)-0, Derbyshire drops to 5(1)-21(3)-3
