‘There will be blood’ – Tyrone McKenna declares WAR on Paddy McKenna
Former actor Tyrone McKenna has done his best Daniel Day-Lewis, declaring ‘there will be blood’ when him and Paddy Donovan collide in Croker.
‘The Mighty Celt’ has promised the best performance of his career – and an all-out war – when he takes on the world title hopeful on the Katie Taylor undercard come September 5.
It’s another big fight on a big stage for the Belfast fighter and McKenna is promising a big performance to match.
The serial entertainer also says a big payday isn’t the reason he took the fight, claiming he is coming to play his part in Irish boxing history.
“I’m going war mentality,” McKenna told Irish-boxing.com
“There’s going to be blood scattered all over that ring. I cannot wait. Paddy’s an unbelievable fighter, but I am coming for the win.
“People are saying I’m just showing up for the money. I’m not. I’m showing up because I want to win.
“This is a life-changing opportunity. I’m training for a historical event, and I’m going to put on a show.”
Putting on a show both in and outside of the ring is second nature to the experienced operator, who retired after defeat to Donovan’s world title nemesis Lewis Crocker three years ago, and he is planning another one on Jones Road.
An audience of 80,000 plus appeals massively to him and he suggests the more eyeballs means increased desire to entertain.
“I can guarantee I’m going to come and put on the best I could ever,” he said.
“I’m going to let the fans go home and have a memory of that fight for the rest of their lives.”
Discussing the power of Croke Park he adds: “I was in Croke Park last year for Oasis and I looked around and I was like, ‘This place is huge. It’s insane,
“And I never thought that a year later I’d be fighting there. It blows my mind when I think about it.
“80,000 people in that arena. I thought walking out to Windsor Park last year that nothing could top it.
“Walking out to 18,000 people, nothing is ever going to top it. And here we are a year later.”
