Sweeney responds on Tims rumour

16 February 2011 – Jonny Stapleton

Michael Sweeney has hit back at suggestions he has pulled out of his upcoming Irish cruiserweight title fight and claims the only noises coming from opponent Ian Tims big mouth come March 19 will be groans of pain.

Rumours the fight was going to be TKOd for a third time have been rife over the last two weeks, but Sweeney like his fellow challenger, Tims has revealed he is willing, ready and able to go to work on the Willie Casey vs Guillermo Rigondauex undercard.

The Mayo big man echoed Tims claims that cancellation talk has not been stoked by his end, stressed he wasnt injured and hinted negative gossip might be stemming from the opposition corner.

The Storm said he was fearful Tank Tims contract demands might see a fight he is desperate to make go down once again.

As far as I am aware the fight is on. Regardless of what has been said over the last few days I am 100per cent committed to fighting Ian Tims. I am really looking forward to this bout and I am training hard for it. The only problem I can see is that Ian hasnt signed the contract yet, he might have some issues with money and that is were the rumours could be coming from, Sweeney told www.irish-boxing.com.

I am a bit nervous he might pull out again. He pulled out in May and this is all a bit too familiar. I hope he isnt going to do that again. My injuries are all cleared up. I hope Ian is injury free too. I am training hard people will see a new Sweeney on March 19.

The Ballinrobe boxer is confident if the fight is finally finalised he will defeat his Facebook foe to claim the Irish crown next month. Sweeney stressed the fact he hasnt taken a warm up bout after his injury set backs conveys that self belief.

The former Banner Promotions promoted hitter also claims he couldnt have better motivation going into what could prove a career crucial clash.

I was confident before when I was meant to fight Tims last time out and I am confident again. I dont think Ian posses any threat to me. I am taking this fight without a warm up, that says it all. I had a disappointing 2010 with three title fights including the EU title fight falling through I am determined to make 2011 better, he added before discussing what he calls Tims big mouth.

Ian has been saying a number of stupid things of late. I was never meant to fight the lad he fought in January. I am not running scarred. He has being mouthing of but I am confident of beating him and stopping stupid things coming out his big mouth. I am fully confident I can hurt him. Then I will take on Darren Corrbett I think he deserves a shot of the title. Declan Trainor will have to wait till he proves he is ready for an Irish title challenge.
