Ryan Burnett v Zhanat Zhakiyanov given huge U.S. television boost

Ryan Burnett [17(9)-0] has been handed a massive boost ahead of his big fight next month.

The Belfast bantamweight seeks to unify his IBF title with the WBA belt of Zhanat Zhakiyanov at the SSE Odyssey Arena on Saturday October 21st, and it was announced yesterday that the bout will be shown live on U.S. television.

The fight will be shown live on American premium cable network HBO. The broadcaster will also that night show Jezreel Corrales’s WBA super featherweight title defence against Alberto Machado at the Turning Stone Casino in New York.

Burnett won the belt in June with a dominant win over champion Lee Haskins, also at the Odyssey. This will be his first defence, as it will be for Zhakiyanov – who defeated Rau’shee Warren in American in January.

The pair are former stablemates and sparring partners following their shared time under Ricky Hatton. Kazakh Zhakiyanov [27(18)-1(0)] remains here, while Burnett has since moved on to link up with Adam Booth.

On this side of the Atlantic the bout will be shown on Sky Sports.

The undercard next month features Tyrone McKenna v Tommy Coyle, Paul Hyland Jr v Stephen Ormond, James Tennyson v Darren Traynor, Feargal McCrory, Tommy McCarthy, Gary Cully, David Oliver Joyce, Jay Byrne, Joe Fitzpatrick and Josh Kelly.

Tickets for the night cost £30, £40, £60, £100, £150 (VIP), and are available from the boxers involved or through HERE
