The Islandeady lightweight makes his Mayo homecoming at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar on Friday December 7th and it has been announced tonight that he will face Christian Uruzquieta [17(6)-4(1)-1] for the WBC International rankings title.
The 28-year-old Mexico City man looks, on paper, to be Moylette’s toughest pro opponent to date.
A pro for almost ten years, Uruzquieta has plenty of experience fighting on the road and has been a repeat visitor to Canada where, over five fights, he has posted two upset wins, one draw, and two losses.
One of these wins came against Steve Wilcox – who Irish fans may remember from his clash with Dublin light welter Darragh Foley earlier this year.
Last time out, in June, Uruzquieta was outpointed in a competitive ten-rounder in Montreal by unbeaten light welter Mathieu Germain for the IBF North American title.
Argentine former world title challenger Fernando Saucedo was initially explored as a potential opponent for ‘Sugar Ray’ but the South American plumped for a spot on the WBSS card in New Orleans last week instead. South African southpaw Michael Mokoena and Mexican brawler Miguel Zamudio, a former opponent of Jamie Kavanagh, were also reportedly in the frame but Assassin Boxing have plumped for the dangerous Uruzquieta.
Moylette comes into the bout following a fantastic start to pro life in which he has scored 11 wins in under a year and a half – most of which have come against solid, game opposition.
Uruzquieta, however, represents a serious step up for the Mayo 28-year-old who will be looking to enter the WBC Top 15 with a win.
Tickets for the card go on sale next week and a full undercard will be announced soon – with Moylette’s Celtic Warriors gym-mate Spike O’Sullivan already being confirmed this evening.
