Pride restored: Fitzgerald back to winning ways

ANTHONY Fitzgerald returned to winning ways in typical all action fashion on Saturday night.

‘The Pride’ put his defeat to rival Gary O’Sullivan behind him with a points win over John ‘The Don’ Brennan in Preston.

‘Fitzy’, who is now planning a light middleweight title assault, started fast and applied pressure on the 29 year old from the off. Chopping right hands and body shots in the opening stanza suggested an early night might be on the cards. The second and third followed a similar pattern as the Dubliner looked the boss and aggressor.

The former Irish champ likes to give fans value for money, however and over the last few rounds became involved in a trade mark brawl. Fitzgerald negated a jab that was serving him well and traded happily with his English opponent over the last few minutes.

The well supported Dub did give Brennan the opportunity to land, but come the final beell looked like he was a more comfortable winner than the 58-56 scorecard suggests.
