McGregor would get boxing licence says head of BUI

Conor McGregor would have to apply for an American boxing licence if he is, as reports suggest today, set to fight Floyd Mayweather in America this Summer, Mel Christle explains.

The UFC featherweight champion and former Crumlin BC amateur would have to pass a medical and satisfy the board he has the boxing skills needed to enter a ring according to the head of the Boxing Union of Ireland.

Christle, however is confident McGregor, who has a boxing back ground and spars some of Ireland’s top pros, would be granted a licence.

Speaking to Independent.ie he said,

“Conor would have to apply for a boxing licence in America (if that is where the fight is) and he would get it,” Mel Christie of the Boxing Union of Ireland told Independent.ie.

“He would have to satisfy a board that he has the relevant boxing skills and he would have to pass the medical requirements.”
