Khan calls for country to get behind John Joe Nevin

By Jonny Stapleton

FORMER World champion Amir Khan has called for the people of Ireland to get behind Olympic silver medal winner John Joe Nevin’s bid become a winner in the pro world.

Mullingar star, Nevin ended months of speculation by signing pro terms with the world famous puncher on Saturday night, and Bolton native Khan stressed with the right support he can help deliver Ireland another boxing super star.

Nevin will punch for pay for the first time in the MEN in ManchesterĀ on January 19, but Khan, who has shared the ring with both Oisin FaganĀ and Paul McCloskey, claims he will promote the former WSB puncher inĀ Ireland when possible.
ā€œHe will make his debut in the MEN in Manchester on January 19, but heĀ will stay and train in Ireland and we will fight over here too. I knowĀ the Irish media and fans will get behind him. He can become aĀ superstar and hopefully he will become world champion one day.ā€
