Kelly prepared
18 March 2009 – By David Boyle
Irish lightweight Michael Kelly has had an up and down career to date.
Although he is undefeated in seven bouts he has had it hard.
After a difficult time in which he was unable to secure a fight for two years, Kelly came back with a bang dropping and stopping Juris Ivanovs in two rounds at Craigavon Leisure Centre in February.
One month on and Kelly is back again fighting in a four round fight against undefeated prospect Valentins Morozovs 2-0-0 (1KO) from Latvia on the Hunky Dorys World title fight night at the O2 Dublin, On Saturday night.
After the start I have had to 2009 all I want is to be back in the ring and continue the form, he said.
Kelly has been training in John Breens gym were he has been sparring British light-welterweight champion Paul McCloskey and Andrew Murray, the undefeated prospect that fights for the EBU title on Saturday night.
I have sparred over 90 rounds for the fight so I’m in the best shape I could be in for this one. Although this is only a four round fight I have trained hard and Im looking to get stoppage number two under my belt.
I have to perform, as the better I do the more fights can come my way.
Speaking on his opponent Michael admits he is venturing into the unknown. Although he has only two fights he has won both and I hear he has had a good amateur background. I have not been able to see any tapes of Morozovs but at 20-years-old he will be ready to fight.
Kelly will be giving away over 10 years to his opponent but this doesnt faze him in the slightest.
All I want to do is go in there and fight. Im hungry and I want to win titles so in this and all fights I am going to be ruthless and I will show that I can fight with the best when the chance comes.
Michael has great hometown support and he will have a following with him at the O2 on Saturday night.
Speaking of fighting on Brian Peters Promotions card he added, It is great to be working under Peters at the moment, I hope he can give me as many fights as possible as I am ready any time. At 32 I dont have a lot of time so I want to be moving up fast.
