“Katie Taylor was great” – Eddie Hearn happy following Obenauf win

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn was happy with Katie Taylor‘s performance on Saturday night.

The Bray super featherweight comprehensively outpointed (60:53) Swiss-based Brazilian Viviane Obenauf over six rounds at the Manchester Arena on the big Anthony Joshua v Eric Molina pay-per-view undercard.

Obenauf took a count in the second round, but the determined South American managed to see the final bell in the face of sustained barrages from Taylor, who has now moved to 2(1)-0.

Afterwards the Wicklow woman was slightly unhappy with her performance, especially in comparison to her destructive debut win over Karina Kopinska.

Hearn however was impressed by the 30 year old’s showing on the big platform, and noted that it was a completely foreign experience for Taylor – which he feels may have slightly unsettled her.

The English promoter spoke to IFL TV afterwards and said “Katie Taylor was great. That girl [Obenauf] was tough as nails.”

“There’s been a lot of pressure on her. Don’t forget, we were running late tonight by about 45 minutes, and that can throw people out when you haven’t done it before.”
