“I think he’s a man of his word” – Conlan expects McGregor to feature at debut
Micheal Conlan expects Conor McGregor to remain true to his word and accompany him to the ring on Friday March 17th.
‘The Notorious’, who recently became a licensed boxer, committed to being the flag bearer for the former amateur stand out when takes to the ring for the first time as a pro at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.
The former Olympic bronze medalist and World Amateur champion stressed that the pair’s agreement at a meet and greet event at the Devenish Venue in Belfast last month was not just for show, and that he fully expects McGregor to be part of his MSG entourage on St Patrick’s Day.
“Conor says he’s going to walk with me and I think he’s a man of his word – we shook on it,” said Conlan on RTÉ 2FM’s ‘Game On.’
The Belfast star believes McGregor will bring something extra to his debut party – which already looks set to be a massive event for Irish fans, with huge numbers due to make the trip.
“He’s the biggest star in combat sport at the minute, he’s probably one of the biggest sports stars in the world at the minute, and to have him carry the tri-colour in would be special.”
“It’s something to look forward to.”
