‘I don’t lose’ says Conlan ahead of mouthwatering Ireland v England Euro final

Michael Conlan has warned Qais Ashfaq ‘I don’t lose’ ahead of their mouthwatering European bantamweight final on Saturday.

Conlan, who beat Francesco Maietta relatively comfortably in today’s semi final, has admitted he hasn’t reached the performance levels he expects from himself throughout the tournament.

While Leed’s Ashfaq, who the Beflast talent beat in the Commonwealth Games gold medal fight, has looked impressive en route to the European decider.

Conlan expects his opponent to gain confidence from his performances, but warns even below par he doesn’t lose.

“I had to cut a lot of weight in two weeks to come here and I feel that may be playing a part in my performances. Even at that I am happy enough as long as I am winning I am happy. I am not fighting my best and I am fighting in the final,” Conlan told RTE post fight.

“I fought the English guy (Qais Ashfaq) in the Commonwealths and I beat him in the final. There will be a great atmosphere for that. I am sure he is confident, but I don’t lose.”
