Hearn: Taylor is boxing’s biggest star and the greatest female fighter of all time

Katie Taylor is the biggest star in boxing and the greatest female fight of all time, according to her promoter Eddie Hearn.

The Matchroom boss is certainly a fan and isn’t afraid to let the world know.

The promoter has previously confirmed the Bray is his favourite active puncher and ahead of the London 2012 Olympic gold medal winner’s massive undisputed fight this weekend he has labelled her the biggest star in the game.

Hearn believes the Wicklow fighter is more exciting than big names  such as Saul Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Anthony Joshua and the likes. He also suggests the Irish fighter is the nicest person in the game and believes she is the biggest star in the boxing.

“For me she is the biggest star in world boxing unquestionably. She is the most exciting fighter to watch and is the greatest individual  aswell,” claimed the Matchroom promoter.

Female fight pioneer, Taylor has helped change the face of the pro side of the sport since turning over, but has been helped by the likes of fellow former amateur standout Claressa Shields. The American is undisputed middleweight champion and has topped TV bills across the Atlantic.

However, Hearn argues Taylor is the better of two, in fact he claims she is the greatest female fighter of all time.

“Katie has been faultless. I love Claressa, but for me Katie Taylor is the best female fighter of all time,” insists Hearn.

“Claressa Shields is also amazing, but Katie is my girl and I just think she’s amazing.”

Taylor will only help her ‘the greatest’ claim with victory in Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.

The 32 year old can become the first Irish fighter to reign as undisputed champion in the four belt era if she beats Delfine Persoon on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s American debut.

Hearn reveals it’s a massive occasion and victory will be the realization of a plan that was set in place from day 1.

“This is everything this fight. When we signed Katie this was always the goal. We got there a lot quicker than we expected, but this is it now. The chance to become undisputed champion is something she has talked about since she turned professional.

“The atmosphere in Madison Square Garden  for Taylor against Persoon is going to be exceptional.”
