Hearn: Super Bantams are afraid of Quigg, but I hope to make match with Frampton this year

EDDIE Hearn claims super bantamweight’s are running scared of possible Carl Frampton rival Scott Quigg but his hopeful ‘The Jackal’ will agree to a domestic dust up before the year is out.

The Matchroom boss has expressed his desire to match Frampton, who Hearn previously claimed would knock out Quigg, with the Bury WBA regular champion in a number of interviews of late.

And writing in his Daily Mail column he once again expressed his desire to make ‘the biggest fight out there’.

Frampton’s former Promoter will be a fan of Cyclone’s leading light come September 6 hoping the Belfast star can disposes Kiko Martinez of his IBF World title before putting it on the line against Quigg.

“Scott Quigg faces former world champion Paulus Ambunda on September 13 at the Phones 4 U Arena in Manchester in what I believe will be the toughest fight of his career.

“Ambunda won the WBO bantamweight title in 2013 before losing to the hugely talented Tomoki Kameda in the only loss of his career.

“I give Ambunda plenty of credit for taking this fight – it’s been a hard task matching Quigg. His devastating knockout of Tshifhiwa Munyai in his last fight has made many in the division much less forthcoming. Scott asked for the Leo Santa Cruz unification but they simply don’t fancy the fight – we even offered to come to the US and again he was avoided.

“As Scott continues to send big statements to the vision, we now hope Belfast’s Carl Frampton can beat Kiko Martinez in September and then we can finally give the public the fight they want to see. It is one of the biggest fights out there and we want to make it.”

Frampton has expressed a desire to fight the English puncher and has previously offered Quigg the chance to fight him. However, Hearn is insisting a rematch clause if the pair do fight and Team Frampton would be keen to get the win and move on,

‘The Jackal’ is keen to crack America and wants a unification fight with WBC strap holder Leo Santa Cruz and if he beats Martinez on September 6 will have options outside a clash with Quigg.
