CARL Frampton can be to Ryan Burnett what Naseem Hamed was to Ricky Hatton, claims ‘Hitman’ himself.
Hatton, who both manages and coaches the Belfast prospect, says he not only cut his teeth on The ‘Prince’s’ undercards but got a taste for big time boxing on the flamboyant stars shows.
He believes fighting on sold out Carl Frampton cards and watching ‘The Jackal’ move closer and closer to a World title can have the same affect on the former Belfast amateur standout, who opens the BoxNation broadcast show on Friday night.
“All the fighters sat here beside me all look up to Carl,” Hatton said at the final press This Is Belfast press conference.
“They want to be where Carl is one day. It is nice for Ryan to box on the big shows and the big venues. I remember when I was coming through and wanted to be a world champion I boxed one the undercard of Naz. When you box undercards like that you think this is where I want to be.”
The popular former World Champion and British boxing legend believes that his charge can follow in Frampton’s footsteps and one day Burnett could be selling out the Odyssey.”
“This is great opportunity for Ryan he is improving with every fight for someone who had the amateur background of Ryan he is looking like an all round professional. I honestly believe the fight fans Friday should have a few less Guinness and get into the venue early to see him. You have a possible conveyer belt of champions here and I think there is every chance Ryan can be where Carl is in a few years time.”
