Frampton sparring Simpson

17 November 2010 – Steve Wellings

Carl Frampton is preparing for his Celtic title fight on December 3 by sparring John Simpson in Scotland. Unbeaten super-featherweight Troy James is alongside Frampton, sharpening up for his undercard bout by sparring WBO world title holder Ricky Burns.

The reason we come over is because this is the best sparring around, explained promoter Barry McGuigan. Two quality fighters in the same gym means great workouts for our lads, it’s invaluable experience for them.

Burns and Simpson work at an intense pace which suits Carl and Troy, after a week of hard work we are moving down to London for more sparring.

Coventry’s Troy James has family connections in Andersonstown and is relishing a return to Belfast after posting a six-round win over Pavel Senkovs on the last Ulster Hall promotion.

Troy only had 20 amateur fights, continued McGuigan, he is very strong and capable but still learning and I see improvements all the time in his game. The same can be said of Frampton. He’s looking so sharp at the moment as he prepares for his first title fight.

The December 3 show also features Stephen Haughian, Jamie Conlan, Ryan Greene and Chris Keane.

Tickets priced 30-55 are now available on ticketmaster and from the Ulster Hall Box Office.
