Fighters make weight – eventually

17 September 2010

The weigh-in for Barry McGuigan’s bill at the Ulster Hall on Saturday night took place in Belfasts Europa Hotel on Friday afternoon. But rather than being a straightforward affair, there was controversy as Yuriy Voronin, who will fight Carl Frampton in the main event, weighed in 6oz over the agreed 8st 12lb limit.

Voronin was then given an hour to lose the excess weight, which he promptly did, returning to the scales to weigh in on the button at 8st 12lb.

Stephen Haughian was also forced to wait as his opponent Dee Mitchell weighed in nearly two pounds over the agreed limit. An hour later Mitchell had boiled down to 10st 9lb 6oz.

Doors at the Ulster Hall open at 6pm with the first bout scheduled for 6.45pm. Some tickets will be available on the door.
