Collins: It’s a pity Hearn doesn’t promote Ogogo

Paschal Collins is lamenting the fact Anthony Ogogo [11(7)-0] isn’t promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Promotions.

The trainer usually isn’t too perturbed by who promotes who outside his stable of fighters, but in the case of the London 2012 Olympic bronze medal winner that seems to be different.

Collins has seen his fighter Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan [23(15)-2(1)] go in hot pursuit of the Norwich puncher. Indeed, the Cork middleweight has started an online campaign to get a fight with a boxer he not-so-affectionately calls ‘The Dancing Queen’.

However, despite name dropping the former Irish champion earlier in the year, Ogogo now argues he has nothing to gain from fighting the Murphys Boxing middleweight and will now face Craig Cunningham [16(3)-1(0)] on the Matchroom show in Birmingham this Saturday.

His promoters, the Sauerland brothers, also poured cold water on the idea, but Collins hinted that they are making a mistake Hearn would not.

“I don’t think Ogogo wants to fight him. I know Eddie [Hearn] loves that fight. Eddie would put it on in a heartbeat. Eddie knows what a good fight it is, but Ogogo isn’t with Eddie he is signed to Sauerlands,” Collins told Irish-Boxing.com.

“They said they would make the fight if ‘Spike’ got a win. ‘Spike’ got the win and nothing happened. He has a fight now and good luck to him, ‘Spike’ wants the fight, but I don’t see him getting it because they don’t want it.”
