Belfast prospect Lewis Crocker to get title fight Greene light?

Louis Greene [12(7)-1(0)] is the name the rumour mill is churning out when the topic of Lewis Crocker’s next fight is broached.

The undefeated 23-year-old prospect is currently in training with a summer return in mind.

The Dee Walsh and Daniel Anderson trained fighter was said to be one of the first names on the list for the initially proposed, but now no go July Belfast card, but has now been linked to an August #MTKFightNight return in England.

If he does appear on that card the suggestions are he will face Kent’s Greene.

‘The Medway Mauler’ has a similar number of fights as ‘The Croc’, but still represents a step up considering the opponents he has faced.

The 27-year-old defeated former Paddy Gallagher defeater Freddy Kiwitt, broke Lukasz Wierzbicki’s duck egg and his sole career defeat came against Larry Ekundayo.

Greene was also deemed good enough to fight WBO European ranking title winner Michael McKinson and would have shared the ring with the Portsmouth native on April 18 but for the pandemic.

Rumour now has Crocker [11(6)-0] and Greene challenging for the WBO European ranking title in August. It’s a fight that may appeal to Frank Warren, as well as one that would fit the BT Sports studio fight card narrative. However, an English based #MTKFightNight appears the more likely.

It’s also a bout that would appeal to the big punching Belfast fighter. The title would lead to a world ranking and Greene would allow him to build on his February defeat of Scot John Thain.

Speaking after that Ulster Hall clash Crocker said: “This is my year. This is a brilliant start and I want to push on now. I made a lot of sacrifices for this fight, so I know what is required.

“I look forward to the next test. I can’t wait to get out there again.”
