James Lynch joins fellow Sligo salesmen and sells the idea of a home show following debut win
The Yeats County men are proving great Sligo show salesmen.
Before Celtic Clash 9, top prospect Aaron Gethins and Boxing Ireland Promotions boss Leonard Gunning were relaying the wonders of the western county with regard to how good a pro boxing show would be there.
Both were confident the first pro show to hit Sligo in over 100 years would be a sell out and as a result a night to remember.
Following his debut win, Ballygawley’s James Lynch was keen to sing off the same hymn sheet. The new to the scene welterweight had just seen a life long dream come to fruition, but was more excited about the prospect of a Celtic Clash show taking place in his home town when speaking afterwards.
“There should be a pro show in Sligo that myself and Aaron will be on,” Lynch, who is trained by Celtic Clash 1 bill topper Stephen ‘Block’ Reynolds, explained.

“Hopefully that comes off next year. We would sell out Sligo to be honest. It would be a huge night and great for the county. It would be great for all fans too. For me it would be a dream fighting at home and words couldn’t describe how proud i’d feel.”
While one dream is in the pipeline another was realized in Belfast on Friday. Lynch registered a shut out points win over late replacement Gary McGuire [0-13(2)] of Glasgow to fulfill a long pro ambition – and post the win was delighted.
“I always wanted to turn pro and I feel a million dollars,” he added.
“I feel great. I was nervous I think everyone gets nervous before their debut, but I just done as I was told by the coaches and I got the job done. It was about keeping it simple tonight. I was jabbing and working the body and just making sure my hands came back to my face. It all paid off in the end.”
