Darragh Foley targeting clash with Jack Catterall v Ohara Davies winner

Darragh Foley [15(8)-2(0)] accepts that a late change of opponent sees him face a more difficult foe this weekend but the Dublin light welterweight remains confident of coming through and moving into massive fights.

Blanchardstown’s Foley fights on this side of the world for the first time on Friday having spent his entire career in Australia.

‘Super’ headlines a BoxNation bill at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow and faces Welshman Chris Jenkins having previously being down to face Willie Limond.

With the inactive veteran pulling out through injury, Foley believes he faces a tougher task in Jenkins [19(8)-3(0)-1].

However, the 29-year-old is confident of coming through the two-time British title challenger and is already targeting the winner of the October 6th clash between his English managerial stablemates Jack Catterall and Ohara Davies.

Noting the challenge of facing a new and improved opponent, Foley described how “I’ve got a couple of weeks’ notice which isn’t ideal but he’s in the exact same position. It’s a level playing field in that sense. He was due to fight this weekend so I know he’ll be in shape.”

“We’re both in the same boat in that we weren’t preparing for each other. I saw him in Prizefighter a few years back and then he had that close fight against Phil Sutcliffe Jr. I think he’s more dangerous than Limond would’ve been.”

“You’ve got to take these fights. I’m defending my WBA Oceania world-ranking title. You’ve got to defend against a good opponent. I’m looking forward to putting on a good show. It’s about to get really tasty.”

Foley has rounded off his camp in Dublin after spending the majority of the past few months in Boston training alongside new IBF super bantamweight champ TJ Doheny.

While he sits at #6 with the WBA, Foley is unfamiliar to Irish fight fans and unknown to British fans. The charismatic southpaw, however, plans to change this on Friday and beyond.

Not averse to naming names, Foley is planning for his joust with Jenkins to serve as a platform for an invasion into the British and Irish scene which he plans to rule over and set up a fight with the eventual World Boxing Super Series winner..

He outlined how “it’s positive that not many know me over this side of the world yet. I’m looking to put in a good performance and get everyone’s tongues wagging. They’ll be looking for me to be out again soon.”

“Jack Catterall and Ohara Davies are the two main guys at 140lb at MTK Global and they’re fighting in October. I’m looking to get right in there amongst them as soon as possible once I handle business against Jenkins.

“All the world titles beside Maurice Hooker’s are tied up in the WBSS so I want to establish my name in the UK and Irish market. When the winner comes out of that series in a year’s time, I want to be perfectly placed to mount a challenge against that winner.”
