Win Win for Bam Bam – Boreland Puts the Pressure on Matchroom Starlet
It’s win win for Bam Bam.
Matthew Boreland is adamant he has everything to gain and nothing to lose when he attempts to derail Joe McGrail’s plans on the historic Katie Taylor farewell card.
The Irish super bantamweight champion is effectively the away fighter on home soil, as he fights a Matchroom prospect on a Matchroom bill in Dublin.
However, he has no plans to play the role Eddie Hearn and co have drafted him in for.
The IGB battler goes into Saturday’s clash determined to use the enormous platform to level up.
That chance to change his life has Boreland excited and it doesn’t think his opponent will be feeling the same emotions.
The exciting Ryan Burnett trained fighter says the pressure rests firmly on McGrail’s shoulders and believes that gives him the freedom to fight without fear.
“This fight is just all to gain, absolutely nothing to lose,” Boreland said.
“The pressure is on Joe. I’m just from a wee small town up the other side of the country. I just want to put it on the map.”
Boreland has no intention of simply playing the role of opponent, promising to give everything in an attempt to prove he is the better fighter.
“I’m just going to go in and give it my all and I’m going to prove I’m the better fighter.”
And the Northern Irishman has a very simple plan for discovering whether McGrail can handle his pressure.
“We’re going to see if he can get hit, if he’s got a chin. That’s what we’ll find out.”
McGrail, however, insists he is not feeling the burden of expectation heading into the fight.
The Liverpudlian believes his recent return from injury was about reminding people of what he can do and intends to do exactly the same again at Croke Park.
“It was just nice to remind people what I can do Jamie,” McGrail said.
“Obviously I had a tough year out with an injury so it was nice to remind people. I’ll be looking to do the same on Saturday.”
As for the suggestion that all the pressure is on him, McGrail was dismissive.
“I’m not really assed to be honest. It doesn’t make any difference to me.
“He’s just the next fella in front of me. I’m going to beat him and then I’m going to progress to bigger and better things.”
