Shortty Carroll shocks Scottish champion

In what is undoubtedly the result of the weekend, Stephen Carroll shocked reigning Scottish champion Eddie Doyle, in Scotland, last night.

The Dublin light welter stepped in as a late replacement to face Doyle after Lee Redpath withdrew from their scheduled Scottish title clash at the AlonA Hotel in Motherwell. Carroll had been due to face Willie Warburton in a four rounder on the Prospect Boxing bill. The switch meant that the bout was moved to eight rounds for Carroll’s Celtic Nations title which he won versus Jamesy Gorman in Belfast last November.

Despite the short notice, Carroll scored a points victory over Doyle to maintain his unbeaten record and send a big message out to the other Irish 140lbers. Carroll dropped his man in the first en-route to a narrow (78:77) points win which was harsh on the Irish boxer.

The win sees Carroll improve his record to 6(1)-0, while Doyle drops to 18(3)-4(2).
