Saunders: I have beaten 7 Irish fighters in Ireland Lee will be number 8
While he may be the away boxer on September 19th, Billy Joe Saunders is a big fan of Ireland and Andy Lee’s native city of Limerick.
When asked about whether the fight being in the Treaty City would benefit Lee, Saunders conceded that “I’m in his back yard,” but claimed that “as soon as I walked in I had a homely feeling straight away – I’ve been greeted by nice people out here.”
On the home of Munster Rugby, which will be converted into a 34,000 capacity cauldron for the fight, Saunders was in awe, and stated that “as soon as a pulled up to the place and looked at it, it was a dream come through.”
Saunders also gave another reason why he is a big fan of Ireland. The Englishman revealed that he holds an impressive unbeaten record on the Emerald Isle, explaining that “I’ve boxed in Ireland seven times [six times as an amateur, once as a pro], and I’ve had seven wins – so hopefully I can keep it going.”
