The Wexford heavyweight will top the ‘Broadway Boxing’ bill at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut on Friday September 15th where he takes on DiBella-promoted fighter Alexis Santos [18(15)-1(1)].
33 year old Kennedy [8(5)-0] won the Massachusetts State title last time out, and will look to upgrade to the New England title here against the reigning champion.
While the New England title is usually contested over eight, this fight will take place over ten, with Santos’s IBO International title in line to be added to the mix.
27 year old Santos, after recovering from an injury-induced defeat to Daniel Martz, claimed the New England title with a third round stoppage over Arthur Saribekian and the IBO belt with a seventh round revenge knockout of Martz, before outpointing Jesse Barboza over eight to retain the regional belt last November.
Gorey Garda Kennedy won the Massachusetts belt on a Murphys Boxing card in Boston on St Patrick’s Weekend with an eighth round knockout, and he has also stopped Saribekian in the first.
A fight which has been bubbling a good while, since Santos was formerly a Murphys Boxing fighter, it affords ‘Boom Boom Baz’ a massive opportunity to properly start making waves in America.
The card will also feature Kennedy’s Celtic Warriors gym mate, Mayo lightweight Ray Moylette [5(2)-0], who is also in action in Boston two weeks later.
