Niall Kennedy not keen on all-Irish clash with Sheehan or Turner
Wexford heavyweight Niall Kennedy [6(3)-0] is not keen on a fight with another Irishman at this stage of his career.
‘Boom Boom Baz’ stressed that he is open to a fight with either Con Sheehan [3(1)-0] or Sean Turner [8(6)-0] down the line, but feels that any all-Irish fights between the trio should be built further.
Indeed the Gorey Garda believes a bout between him and Tipperary’s Sheehan is one which is worthy of the European title.
32 year old Kennedy spoke to Irish-Boxing.com and explained that “Con is top class, I believe I am top class, I think Sean is top class.”
“I think people are sometimes shouting for us to fight each other straight away, but in my opinion it’s better to let them all build, let us have something that we all want to fight for.”
Indeed the Celtic Warrior Gym big man argued that the standard of Irish heavyweights is underrated, and therefore it would be detrimental if they were to fight each other at this early stage and tanished one another’s records.
Kennedy outlined how “in England they talk about Dillian Whyte, I think we are at that level we just don’t have the platform and there’s no point going and destroying records. We should be built rather than taking each other down at the minute.”
“Con now, after his eight rounder the last day, is eligible for the Irish title but no one else is. I will be next probably but it’s not a fight at the minute that’s attractive to me for the simple fact that it’s a fight that should be for the European title or something of that magnitude.”
