Ireland’s Willie McLaughlin notched his second win of the season in the World Series of Boxing in Milan to help Milano Thunder to a shut out 5-0 victory over Patrick Gallagher’s Mumbai Fighters.
McLaughlin earned an impressive (48-26,49-45,48-46) unanimous decision over India’s Jangra Mandeep in the WSB middleweight class.
Mandeep, whose tendency to engage in theatrics throughout the bout failed to break McLaughlin’s concentration on his task, was handed a public warning for holding in the third.
The win for McLaughlin – who boxes out of the Illies GG BC in Donegal – help consolidate Thunder’s positions at the top of the Group A table, eight points clear of Dynamo Moscow.
Jason Quigley’s and Sean Turner’s Los Angeles Matadors will be in action away to the Astan Arlans of Kazakhstan tomorrow.
LA are lying in 4th spot in Group A, nine points behind Thunder. The top four teams in the two groups qualify for the play-offs.
Meanwhile, Ken Egan’s and Con Sheehan’s Leipzig Leopards were beaten 5-0 away to Mexico City in Group B today.McLaughlin was the only Irish boxer involved in the WSB this weekend.
