John Joe Nevin to face unbeaten prospect in step-up bout
John Joe Nevin [9(4)-0] will take a step up in more ways than one in his next fight.
The 2012 London Olympic silver medalist, four years on from his debut, will have his tenth fight on Friday March 9th in Philadelphia.
The 28-year-old Mullingar super featherweight makes the move up to eight rounds in the milestone fight and he will top the bill at the Parx Casino in Bensalem.
Not only this though, and it has been confirmed that Nevin will face the toughest and most ambitious opponent of his career thus far. ‘The Mullingar Shuffler’ will box unbeaten Mexican-Canadian Alex Torres Rynn [6(3)-0] on the Joe Hand Promotions bill.
Hailing from Mexico City, but fighting out of Calgary, ‘The Golden Aztec last fought in June, going six rounds with solid journeyman Jesus Perez.
The 31-year-old is coming in confident and noted how “it will be by far my biggest challenge, but my mentality like always is ‘WIN’.”
“Professionally I feel I have fought the better competition and he may have a tremendous amateur background but this one isn’t three rounds.”
Nevin is slowly getting back into things. He ended a year out of the ring back in November with an impressive win over Lee Connelly in London.
Also on the card in just over six weeks time will be Nadia Alvarez, Gerardo Martinez, Isiah Wise, Jerome Conquest, and a super featherweight clash between Avery Sparrow and Jesus Serrano.
