Gary Sweeney will make his World Series of Boxing (WSB) debut against Romanian heavyweight Jitaur Ionut-Mirel in London tomorrow night.
The Olympic BC (Galway) clubman lines out for the Mexico Guerrerors against the British Lionhearts at York Hall on Thursday.
The Sweeney versus Ionut-Mirel five-rounder is the final fight on the five-fight program at iconic Old Ford Road venue.
Sweeney weighed-in at 90.6kg this morning ahead of the Group B mid-table clash.
“This is a good opportunity for Gary if he performs. It’s a good chance for him and we’re hoping to put on a good performance on Thursday,” said Irish coach Eddie Bolger, who will be working Sweeney’s corner at York Hall.
Boxing begins at 8pm on Thursday night.
